Richard Thackham was born in Buckinghamshire in 1966 and initially embarked on a career as a commercial Photographer, dedicating much of his working life to running his own company and serving numerous prestigious clients in the world of advertising.
In recent years, Richard has returned to his first love, painting, a passion he has had for as far back as he can remember. His artistic style has undergone considerable transformation throughout the years, yet his commitment to the craft of oil paint and equine subjects has remained unwavering.
Recently, Richard has begun experimenting with mixed media, allowing him to create layered compositions that are ultimately completed with oil paint. Now based in Gloucestershire, Richard is currently engaged in producing exquisite works centred around the horse. He prefers to clarify his thought process before approaching the canvas. Once this is established, he works directly to the canvas. Utilising a fluid and expressive technique along with a thoughtfully selected colour palette, his goal is to capture movement, strength, vitality, and elegance, all of which encompasses the horse.
His paintings will be exhibited for the first time by Equestrian Art International throughout 2026 both here in the UK and internationally.
