Artists - Jake Winkle ASEA

About

Jake studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design and then at Brighton Polytechnic.   After a spell in industry he became a full time professional artist in 1993 and is now based in Blandford Forum in the heart of Dorset.

Jake works exclusively in watercolours.  Inspired by light and movement his paintings are a reflection of the world around him.  His work is characterized by loosely applied brushwork and a colourful and contemporary style which creates lively compositions full of action and energy.

Jake currently exhibits in a number of galleries in the south of England and is a regular contributor to the Artist magazine which features his instructional workshops on painting in watercolours.  Indeed Jake, is the author of a DVD entitled ‘Watercolour from Light to Dark’, the byproduct of his masterclasses and workshops in watercolour techniques.

Jake has won many awards including the 2009 St Cuthbert’s Mill Award for The Best Watercolour painting at the annual Society of Equestrian Artists Exhibition at the Mall galleries in London and in 2004 was a finalist in The Daily Mail’s ‘Not the Turner prize’ competition.  In 2010, he won the Best in Show at the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society exhibition.
